Member Spotlight: Meet Austin Member, Kati Ohlmeyer!

iGnite IS our members! They make us what we are, which is why we LOVE spotlighting them! This week, we invite you to meet Austin Member, Kati Ohlmeyer...who you'll never catch without a smile and a positive attitude! And, we also love that we get to see Kati in just about every class or event. From attending classes, workshops and getaways, we can count on Kati to join in on all the iGnite fun.

How long have you been a member?

6 years!

Where do you live and how do you iGnite?

I live in Austin. I usually go to 8:30 classes but in 2023 I'm challenging myself to get to one 7:30 class a week.

What's your favorite exercise song?

Survivor by Destiny's Child, anything by Britney Spears or Justin Bieber.

How did you become a part of iGnite?

I'd always been really active until I had kids. My youngest started kindergarten at the same time I turned 40, and I realized I needed to take care of myself and my body. A friend who is no longer a member of iGnite invited me, and I'm so glad she did!

What do you do right after class?

Take my coffee to my patio and plan out my day.

Where did you grow up?

I'm still growing up! My childhood and college years were spent in rural Ohio. Then I moved to the Carolinas for about 10 years, before landing in Austin almost 15 years ago.

What are your favorite local and not local social media accounts to follow? Anything that makes me laugh. El Arroyo and @loganlisle never let me down.

What's your most favorite word?

Aloha!

Who’s your biggest motivator and what do they do for you?

My husband, Todd. He thinks he married up but I am actually the lucky one!

What class do you most look forward to and why? Ooooh this is a tough one because they're all amazing for different reasons. Dance is just flat out fun, Pilates always makes me feel an inch taller, the Rollingwood park classes fill me up, being outside with like-minded women using our strong bodies, and Neissa's classes are sure to be a great sweat and I love that she closes each workout with prayer. iGnite classes are like my children - I can't choose a favorite because they're each wonderful and special in their own way.

What do you mutter while doing burpees?

What Kathleen taught me ... I tell myself "I am NOT tired!" It works for burpees and so much else. Doing hard things is all about mindset.

If you were going to invite a friend along to iGnite, what would you say to encourage them to come?

I would describe iGnite as the Cheers Bar of exercise groups. Everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came.

What’s saving you right now?

My dog, Kona. She always knows when I need a snuggle.

What's been your favorite job and do you still do it?

I love being a Registered Dietitian. I've worked in private practice, clinical settings, school nutrition and community education for underserved populations. One of the great things about being an RD is there are so many different career paths to explore and I'm constantly learning and growing.

What's your favorite thing about iGnite?

Having fun and supporting one another means I go to class because I want to, not because I have to.
