iGnite Spotlight: San Diego Member, Jennifer Tellers

Roots

I was born and raised in Orange County with my parents and six sisters. We lived in Fullerton until I was 9, then we moved to Brea. I am daughter number 5. I went to Rosary High School, an all girls Catholic High School. Then attended Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. After college I worked at Eddie Bauer in the Retail Operations department. I decided to go back to college and get my teaching credential at Claremont Graduate School. I taught 2nd and 3rd grade before I became a full time wife and mom.

Family Life

I met Clay, my husband, in Seattle. We lived in Washington for 11 years before moving our family to San Diego. We have been married for 18 years. We have three children, Joe (16), Sam (13), and Lucy (9). Our children are very busy with sports. We believe our children should play multiple sports which keeps us really busy. I love taking pictures of them and making team videos.

In my free time you'll find me...

Lucy says she finds me doing laundry. But, I like walking our dog Penny, baking something yummy, or shopping for glassybabies.

If I were an ice cream flavor, I would be...

Chocolate with caramel and a little crunch

Favorite Color

Turquoisey blue

I have no idea…

Your Favorite Movie & Why?

My favorite movie is Elf. It just makes me laugh every time.

Favorite Quote:

If there is a will there is a way.

Your Favorite Book & Why?

I love children’s books. There are so many favorites. Ask Mr. Bear is at the top of the list. My parents read that book to me so many times I could recite it word for word. I enjoyed reading it to my children and often give that book as a gift for new moms. I am reading Anne of Green Gables to Lucy right now too.

Your Favorite TV Show & Why?

I really don’t watch TV much. If I do, it’s usually a baseball, football, basketball game or a food show. Something I can watch with my kids.

Your Favorite Concert or Musician?

When I was in high school, my very first concert was Madonna, Who’s that Girl tour. I went with my sisters and friends and it was so much fun. After college I was a “grunge” girl. I loved Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews. One of my favorite songs is “Just Breathe” by Pearl Jam covered by Willie Nelson.

What are you looking forward to?

No more laundry… haha. I am looking forward to my family’s next vacation together. Our kids are finally at the age when we can take adventurous trips. We enjoy, hiking, kayaking, golfing, snorkeling, ziplining and eating good food. J

Who inspires you the most and why?

My parents. They made raising 7 daughters look easy, but I know it wasn’t. My dad grew up on a farm in Minnesota and loved to play sports. His family did not have enough money to buy a basketball and

he did not have a hoop to practice on. He created his own basketball hoop with a trashcan and his coach gave him an old ball from the school for him to practice with. He became an all American player at his High School.

The biggest lesson I've learned from iGnite is....

iGnite has taught me to take care of myself. As moms, we do so much for our children, that we often forget to take care of ourselves. I love iGnite and what it has done for me and my family. All the iGnite moms are so inspiring. I am amazed at strength this group of women has both inside and out… and my daughter loves going to iGnite too so she can play whiffle ball in the park. I think it’s important that we are the example for our children and for them to see us exercising and taking care of ourselves. When my kids get home from school, they will ask me if I went to iGnite and what exercises did I do.
