What Are Your iGnite Goals & Why?

Point to Ponder:

What are your specific first Quarter iGnite goals?

Since moving to San Diego two and a half years ago I have not purged, and last week I did just that! It wasn’t a full purge, as that will take several weekends, however it was two trash cans full of headless Barbie dolls, broken trucks, and a random assortment of used and abused toys. As you can imagine, it felt incredible! While going through the kids toys and sorting through their Mt. Everest size pile of stuffed animals I had the realization that one of the reasons why they harass me to watch my iPhone rather than go upstairs and play with their ridiculous amount of toys or go outside and run around in the perfect weather is because they have too many toy choices. With baskets and shelves filled with plastic crap and fury animals, the process of what to play with is overwhelming, which leads to their annoying default request to watch my phone. And that specific request makes me legitimately crazy! I know this ah-ha moment wasn’t rocket science, but it was a “sift through the unnecessary of life” moment that led me into thinking about other areas, like the amount of food we keep in our pantry, the ridiculous amount of clothes I have, the Christmas decorations that a full day to take down and store, the amount of books I have stacked on my night stand (which are all half read) and the 2018 goals I am considering.

Goals. For some, the word 'goals' is paralyzing because there are so many choices and we haven't had past success. For others, it’s motivating. For the intent and purpose of today’s journal and our weekly theme, I hope you view ‘goals’ as a positive and exciting opportunity to determine what you’d like to accomplish and attain as a result of your iGnite experience. However, forget the whole year. We’re only focusing on the first quarter, as looking out in three month increments is much less overwhelming, and more realistic and achievable.

In addition, we are already entering our 5th week of 2018 and January is coming to a quick end, however it’s perfect timing to set your Q1 goals because you’ve had a chance to get acquainted with the new year and adjust. It’s also likely that you’ve gotten a cold or virus and are now feeling better, have nursed your child/children back to restored health from his/her cold or flu,

or your iGnite routine was interrupted by the Arctic Blast.

So, now that all of the typical January detours are out of the way and we are officially in 2018, it’s the perfect time to determine your Q1 iGnite health and happiness goals. After all, this week we are entering February and we only have two months left, and that’s not overwhelming at all!

Some Q1 iGnite goal ideas might be:

  • Average 3 iGnite classes each week

  • Mix it up and try one different class each week

  • Take a low impact class

  • Take a high impact class

  • Spend time after each class stretching

  • Incorporate more strength classes

  • Get to know your fellow iGnite members better

  • Commit to working your hardest during class

  • Commit to having more fun

  • Encourage a friend to join you

  • Commit to doing what’s best for your body

  • Improve your cardiovascular capacity by telling yourself you don’t need to stop

  • Rest when your body tells you to rest

  • Attend an iGnite member lunch, Lifestyle Luncheon or event

  • Jump on the days you do not jump in iGnite (see why we're Jumping in February)

  • Perform 100 glute bridges each day 40 days in our Love Your Butt Glute Raise/Bridge Challenge

Obviously there are plenty of goals we can consider, but because less is more, Once you determine the goals you want to commit to, I encourage you to determine your why. Your why will be your motivation for working towards your goals and achieving them. For example, if you decide to participate in Kathleen’s annual 40-day Love Your Butt Glute/Bridge Challenge that starts tomorrow, January 29, why do you want to participate? For me, I’ll be participating and can absolutely benefit from strengthening and toning my rear, but b/c I have a super tight lower back and hip flexors, my lower body and spine need the 4000 bridges.

As you consider and determine your first quarter iGnite goals, as well as your why, be sure to write them down and place them where they can be seen daily. Also, if you are comfortable, please share your goals as well as your why with your iGnite Leaders. Your iGnite Leaders are your teammates, and we want to encourage and assist you in getting everything you desire out of your iGnite experience and your life!
