 Cardio, Strength, & Core

Fitness Background:

I have always enjoyed being active and encouraging others to join in the fun.  I took ballet lessons during my middle school years and then again in college where I taught an impromptu class when the instructor was absent. In high school I ran hurdles on the Track & Field Team, made a splash on the Diving Team and was a Varsity Cheerleader.  I was also part of a Polynesian Dance group after finishing High School.  I think dancing is such a fun workout!  I began taking Yoga classes in my late 20’s and have continued with my practice over the years.  I am an Essential Oil Wellness Advocate and believe in the body being able to do amazing things when given the proper tools.  Staying fit and using essential oils has helped me immensely, mentally and physically.

Being at home with 2 young children, my desire to attend group fitness classes has been what keeps me grounded.  For years I have considered becoming a certified fitness coach. The door to lead fitness classes has opened for me in the past, however I did not feel that the time was quite right. When the opportunity to lead classes with iGnite presented itself, I decided that there is no better time than the present.  I am very excited to be a part of the iGnite Team and look forward to inspiring other women.

What Led Me To iGnite:

The WONDERFUL Rory Smith lead me to iGnite!  After cancelling my membership at a local gym, Rory invited me to experience iGnite.  After my first class, I knew I was in the right place.  Neissa has created a place that is so much more than an outdoor gym, it is a place where I have found inspiration, encouragement and friendship.

Roots:

A native of Southern California, I have lived in San Diego since I was 8. I grew up near San Diego State University, which is where I also attended college and obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.  My husband, Jeff, and I met in 2003 while we were working in the biotech industry.  We have been married for 10 years and have welcomed 2 children into the world, our daughter Sammi (8) and son Bodie (4).  We have 3 dogs, Jolie, Ruby and Tanner, and 1 red eared slider turtle named Catboy.

Happiness is a choice, not a result.

Nothing will make you happy until

you choose to be happy.

No person will make you happy

unless you decide to be happy.

Your happiness will not come to you.

It can only come from you.

Something People May Not Know About Me:

Prior to having children, my career goals always involved working in the animal field.  I have been fortunate to have experienced some pretty cool jobs. I have volunteered and interned with the Zoological Society of San Diego helping out with research projects such as the Indian Rhinoceros Project & Elephant Baby Watch. I spent a summer out on San Clemente Island as a Research Fellow where I helped out with the Loggerhead Shrike Recovery Program.  I have worked for Project Wildlife and continue to help out at SoCal Parrot.  I am a certified dog trainer through Animal Behavior College and worked as an Elephant Keeper/Trainer at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park for 6 years.

Mantra:

My family and I recently visited an Element Park in British Columbia, full of zip-lines, suspended bridges and obstacle courses.  I bought a shirt from their gift shop that says, “Play more. Fear less.”  I love this and have made it my new Mantra.

My Favorite Thing To Do For Fun:

I love creating memories with my family whether it’s through our travels or exploring the great places San Diego has to offer.  Dancing has always been a part of my life and if you stop by my house, there is a good chance the kids and I will be having a dance party.  I also really enjoy a good book!
