iGnite for Female College Students

Making Positive Choices Now Will Impact Your Life Forever

In my family, athletics was a part of life. My father was a coach and being active was a given.  After graduating from high school and not having sports or athletics to keep me in shape, I quickly realized (after immediately gaining weight) that I had to take responsibility for my health and fitness.

Immediately upon moving to Austin and starting college, I began running because it was FREE!  As a college student, I didn’t have any money to spend on a gym, therefore running was going to be the exercise of choice, even though I did not enjoy track or cross country in high school and only did it because I had to in order to play basketball.

To my surprise, I began to enjoy running.  I feel in love with the time I spent at Town Lake and I liked the way my body felt and looked as a result of running.  Because of this experience, I changed my major to Kinesiology (the study of the body’s movement), and joined several gyms and immersed myself into all kinds of exercise classes, strength training, and marathon training.

I am so thankful that I invested in my body, mind, and spirit when it would’ve been easier not to. To make positive food choices the majority of time and exercise daily was definitely not the popular decision. Because I took care of my body early, I feel as though it helped me graduate on time with a good GPA, as well as set me up for success in my adult life.  After all, if you can work full time while going to school and still have time to eat right and exercise…what can’t you do???

Establishing self discipline and developing positive exercise and eating habits (at an early age) will not only help you become more healthy and fit, but I believe it also sets you up for success in your physical, spiritual, mental, professional, and personal life too.

Neissa believes that variety is the spice of life, especially when it comes to exercise.  During your iGnite experience, all exercise will be outdoors and creative, challenging and fun, functional and energizing.

The focus will be on goal setting, yoga, athletic functional movement, balance, core strength, strength building with resistance bands and weights, and cardiovascular fitness.
